The wedding glass set is a complete kit for the Jewish couple that wants to add a layer of artistry and intention to their wedding ceremony. The couple receives a hand-blown smashing glass in a purpose-made heavy-duty canvas pouch along with instructions and a return shipping label to send back their shards. After smashing the glass under the chuppah, they will return the shards to be made into an item of their choosing to adorn their new household and recall the joy of their wedding.

Each of these glasses is made with love and intention. Each is unique. Therefore, please note that the glass you receive will be slightly different from the one pictured on the site.
 
For  a surcharge you may choose a custom color.  If you do, please order promptly; custom orders can take 3-4 weeks to fabricate.
 
A NOTE ON COLOR: The color you are selecting now is the color of the cup to be smashed. While the pieces of the smashed glass contribute to the color of the final piece, the full color scheme will be a combination of the shards with the water-blue of our recycled glass.

      • The Small but Important Details

        • Our smash glasses are designed to break easily. They are not round because that weakens the shape and lets them rest well on the ground, and the bases are the same thickness as the rest of the vessel (whereas most glasses are thicker on the bottom).

        • Our smash bags are specially designed for safety. Satin may be pretty, but it does nothing to contain sharp glass. Our bags are made with two layers of canvas, and we add in an additional barrier layer in between.

      Full instructions will be sent to the recipient of the smash glass indicated in the order.

      If you are ordering this as a gift, we recommend that you do some following up. We have found that:

      • Couples often lose the paperwork and return shipping label in between when they receive the package and when they're ready to return the shards. This isn't an issue, they just need to get in touch and we'll email them a new label and get the information we need.

      • In the excitement that follows the "MAZEL TOV!" moment, sometimes things get left behind at the chuppah. It's very helpful to have a point person who is in charge of getting the shards from the floor of the chuppah and into the hands of someone responsible. 

      If you are ordering this for your own wedding, we suggest:

      • Opening the box before your wedding! It's nice to see the glass before you break it, and you'll also want to pull out the return label and return card for safekeeping -- you don't need those at the wedding with you.

      • Appointing someone (maybe your officiant, maybe a relative or a friend who's good at keeping track of things) to pick up the bag of broken glass after the ceremony and bring it to a designated location where you'll find it in the days after the wedding. Wherever people are plopping checks is a great place, or a place where you're stashing important ritual items.

      • If you do lose track of the return label and card, don't worry about it -- just reach out to us and we'll email you a label and get the info we need.

      Safety Precautions

      We put a lot of effort into making our smash glass as safe as possible (see "what makes BGOLD Glass different"). However, breaking glass is inherently hazardous because the pieces are extremely sharp.

      Therefore, please take the following precautions:

      • Always break glass wearing proper footwear with enclosed toes.

      • Once the glass is broken, leave it in the bag and keep your hands out of the bag.

      • We strongly recommend that you use the provided heavy-duty bag rather than something thinner. If you want a different aesthetic, put a different bag over the bag we provide or wrap the whole thing in a napkin.

    • ARTIST'S STATEMENT

      The Kabbalists teach us that when the glass vessel holding the world shattered, the shards dispersed throughout all the corners of the world. We are now responsible for the Tikkun Olam, the repair work of bringing them back together. Each one of BGOLD’s vessels is made by gathering some of those broken shards and melting them back together with spiritual purpose. The symbolism behind wedding shards is even greater, as it represents the changing and re-fusing of multiple relationships.
